Learn More About Hair Transplantation

DHI vs. FUE

Hair loss can have a significant impact on your self-esteem and confidence. Sometimes it can even lead to anxiety and loss of self-esteem But, hair loss is a problem that has a cure. So, it isn’t destiny. Thanks to technological development, hair transplantation is performed easier and more successfully. There are three main procedures used in hair transplantation. However, two of them are considered the most successful techniques. Direct hair transplantation (DHI) and follicular unit extraction (FUE) are the two of them, and below, you will find the comparison of DHI and FUE methods.

History Of Hair Transplant Procedures

Hair transplantation, which has been carried out since the 1930s, is being modernized day by day. Among the main three hair transplant methods, FUE and DHI are considered the most technological way to treat your hair loss problems.

The FUE method emerged in the 1990s, and it has been implemented for almost 30 years. Direct Hair Implementation surgery emerged in 2010, and this makes it the most technological method. Although DHI is the technique that has the same logic as FUE, DHI uses different tools compared to FUE.

How FUE And DHI Are Performed?

The FUE—follicular unit extraction is the most popular technique used in hair transplants. Basically, doctors take grafts from the donor site where usually the back of your head and plant each hair follicle in the recipient area. Surgeons plant each hair follicle one by one manually.

On the other hand, the DHI—direct hair implementation technique is done by placing the grafts taken into the recipient area with a pen-like tool. Both techniques seem alike.

Similarities Of DHI and FUE Methods

When we compare the two techniques, it is safe to say that DHI and FUE have many similarities. Here are some similarities between DHI and FUE Methods;

  • DHI is a relatively new procedure and just like FUE.
  • They have the same logic on the basis. Extraction procedures are the same, and DHI gives very little damage to the donor site. Thus, the recovery time is faster.
  • DHI leaves no undetectable scars, and the results look natural, just like FUE.
  • DHI requires local anesthesia just like, the FUE.

Differences Between DHI and FUE Hair Transplant Methods

Let’s take a closer look at the differences between DHI and FUE. Although they have the same logic in the base, they have differences in terms of the technology they use and the cost of the whole procedure.

When surgeons plant extracted hair grafts to the recipient area, they use different tools in these two methods. While implanting extracted hair follicles to the recipient area, surgeons implant each grafts one by one manually in the FUE procedure. However, surgeons use special tools that open the canal and implant hair follicles at the same time in the DHI process.

Also, the costs of the procedures are different between DHI and FUE. DHI is expensive than FUE because DHI uses more technological tools.

The bottom line is both techniques that DHI and FUE like each other. They have the same logic, but they use different techniques. Prices also different between the two techniques. So, you need to contact your doctor, and you should consider what technique you want to undergo.
